Cough/Sore throat Fix

Over the years, I've had a number telling me how to get rid of a sore throat or a bad cough. Since I'm having to deal with a bad cough/sore throat these days, I thought I'd jot down the list of remedies that I've gathered. They are as follows:

  • Gargling: Warm up some water and add some salt to it. Then go to the bathroom and gargle your throat. This is probably the most effective remedy.

  • Honey: Have a teaspoon (I prefer a tablespoon) of honey with some pepper. Some people prefer having their honey mixed in some warm water and some pepper on top.

  • Chai: Have some tea (or chai, whatever you prefer calling it). Mix a pinch of salt with it. Another variation is adding a little ginger instead of salt. Wanna do the full monty? Mix both salt and ginger in your tea.

  • Cough Drops: Cough drops and lozenges are always very effective. You can get Halls, Vicks or whatever brand you prefer.

  • Vicks VapoRub: Vicks VapoRub (or something similar from other pharmaceutical companies) is another very effective way to feel better. Apply some on your chest and some on your throat.

  • Boiled Eggs: Boil some eggs and have them with salt and pepper.

You should drink a lot of fluids as well, especially water. There is a bunch of things that you should avoid as well. However, there will be some people who will totally disagree with the list.

  • Avoid Rice

  • Try not to have your beverages cold

  • Avoid Potatoes or any other thing that's starchy

  • Avoid Ketchup and Tomatoes

I hope this helps whoever is suffering from a sore throat or a bad cough. However, anyone using any of the methods mentioned above are doing so at their own risk. Please do read the warning labels and consult your doctor whenever possible.

Any other suggestions? They are more than welcomed, just leave your suggestions in the comments of this post.
